NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM VISA

The Canadian Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) seeks to recruit immigrants who have specialized occupational skills. Through an agreement with the Government of Canada, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador selects nominees who can contribute to the economic and social goals of the province for permanent resident status.

Nominees must settle in beautiful Newfoundland and Labrador and have sufficient ability to communicate in either English or French. Provincial Nominees also enjoy priority processing of their applications for permanent residence by Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC).

Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Nominee Program Visa Basic Requirements

Through this program, persons with specialized skills that are deemed as having a critical impact on the operations of an employer and that are not otherwise obtainable in Canada are eligible for nomination. Applicants submitting an application in this category will be required to have a bona fide offer of paid employment, at prevailing market rates, from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer.

The applicant may also be required to visit scenic Newfoundland and Labrador for a pre-employment interview with the employer and the local officials and will be required to have been in the province for a six-month period prior to submitting a NLPNP application. Applicants already in the province on a work permit may also be required to attend an interview. The skilled worker will also be required to meet with department officials within fourteen days after landing. In most cases, skilled workers must satisfy provincial credentials standards and/or professional licensing requirements prior to the final decision on issuance of a nomination certificate by the province.

In some circumstances, a temporary work permit may be arranged by the NLPNP officials to allow the prospective immigrant to accept employment and to assess whether he/she and their family will be able to settle successfully in Newfoundland and Labrador. This will not, however, guarantee issuance of a nomination certificate by the province.
